ACCRA, Feb 9 (Reuters) - Soccer news in brief from around the world:

* A goal scoring record was set for the African Nations Cup as the tally for the tournament in Ghana reached 96 goals.

The 4-2 win for Ghana over the Ivory Coast in the third place play-off match in Kumasi took the number of goals scored at the tournament past the previous record of 93, set at the 1998 finals in Burkina Faso.

The Nations Cup in Ghana concludes on Sunday when defending champions Egypt meet Cameroon in the final in Accra.

* Barcelona will play a friendly against Kazma Sporting Club in Kuwait City on May 27, the Primera Liga club said on their Web site (www.fcbarcelona.com).

It is Barca's second trip to the region after they played Egypt's Al Ahli in a friendly in Cairo last April.

* Real Madrid's Germany defender Christoph Metzelder will have surgery on a persistent foot injury on Wednesday, the Primera Liga leaders said on their Web site (www.realmadrid.com). (Editing by Alison Wildey)
