Soccer-Boavista players go ahead with strike
LISBON, April 18 (Reuters) - Boavista's players have confirmed they will go on strike this weekend after the club failed to pay salaries that are two months overdue, the head of the players' union told reporters on Friday.
Joaquim Evangelista said the players will not turn out against Nacional Madeira in the Portuguese Premier League on Sunday after failing in their attempts to reach agreement.
The players, who warned last week they would strike if the club did not pay the arrears, are claiming wages from February and March plus 60 percent of their December salary.
Boavista are 10th in the league with four matches left, level on 32 points with ninth-placed Madeira.
