MILAN, May 17 (Reuters) - Juventus striker Alessandro Del Piero became Serie A's top scorer when he netted twice in a thrilling 3-3 draw at Sampdoria in their final game of the season on Saturday.

The 33-year-old, hoping for an Italy recall for Euro 2008, took his league tally to 21 to win a personal battle with team mate David Trezeguet, who only scored once to finish on 20.

Del Piero will end the season as the league's sole top scorer for the first time unless Genoa's Marco Borriello scores twice in Sunday's game at Atalanta or another player bags a hatful.

Italy's provisional Euro 2008 squad is announced on Tuesday and Del Piero, who has not played for the Azzurri since September, did his cause no harm when he calmly slotted in the opener on seven minutes following a neat pass from Pavel Nedved.

Trezeguet played catch up with a penalty before Samp forward Antonio Cassano scored via a deflection, Christian Maggio equalised from distance and Cassano had a spotkick saved.

Mohamed Sissoko was sent off for two bookings after the break but Juve, assured of third spot and a Champions League qualifying place, continued to attack.

Del Piero was given the honour of converting a second penalty but was annoyed when he was substituted midway through the second half.

Sixth-placed Samp, already certain of a UEFA Cup spot, levelled again through Vincenzo Montella 10 minutes from time.

Walter Mazzarri has yet to be confirmed as Samp boss for next term and emotionally applauded the crowd at the end.  Continued...
