YEREVAN (Reuters) - Armenian President Robert Kocharyan vowed on Saturday to use the army against protesters occupying the centre of the capital, saying they were using weapons, Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency reported.

Kocharyan said the demonstrators -- who have been protesting against what they say is a rigged presidential election last month -- were shooting at unarmed police.

A Reuters correspondent saw a column of army trucks carrying soldiers on the main road heading towards the Armenian capital Yerevan.
