CHARLESTON, West Virginia (Reuters) - Hillary Clinton won the West Virginia contest to pick a Democratic presidential candidate on Tuesday, a victory that cheered supporters but did little to help her catch frontrunner Barack Obama, U.S. media projected.

The New York senator and former first lady is expected to use the victory to argue she is a stronger candidate than Obama among the white middle-income voters whose support the Democratic party needs in order to win key swing states during the November election against Republican John McCain.
