    Frankfurt – Overview

A close-to-nature business hub where everyone speaks good English and home to one of the world’s top opera companies, Frankfurt is a modern, cosmopolitan city located in the heart of the Rhein-Main region. Although set to become Europe’s most important financial centre, with a stock exchange in the global top three and the tallest, most futuristic skyscrapers, Frankfurt is not all work-work-work: there are some über-fashionable hotels and restaurants here, with trendy new neighbourhoods springing all the time. Visit Frankfurt during one of its city-dominating trade fairs and it becomes apparent how much this metropolis offers the business community.

Much of Frankfurt’s old town was destroyed during World War Two but small pockets remain, including the museums along the River Main, the imposing Cathedral and the cobbled square of Römerberg.

    Money: The Euro (€).

Credit cards and euro-denominated traveller’s cheques are widely accepted in main hotels, shops and restaurants. Smaller establishments may accept cash only.
