London
London – Overview
The UK capital is at once edgy and alternative, historical and nostalgic, corporate and fast paced, and yes, it really is a global village — a leading financial hub, a multicultural melting pot of 7.56 million people and an easily negotiable matrix of village-like communities. With 30,000 shops, over 6,000 restaurants, 5,000 pubs and bars, and an encyclopaedic list of heritage attractions, this is a conurbation in which to set aside some serious circa-meetings leisure time.
London is built along the Thames river. The City of London (‘the City’, north-east of the river) houses most financial businesses. The West End (west of the City) and Docklands (to the east) are also important business districts. However, businesses are located throughout central London. Belgravia, Trafalgar Square, the Grosvenor Square area and Kensington (‘Embassy Row’) are home to most countries’ embassies and high commissions.
Money: The pound sterling (GBP) is the national currency.
