The Carbon Products segment manufactures and sells carbon black for rubber products such as automobile tires, graphite electrode for electric furnaces, fine carbon (special carbon products), friction materials, carbon brushes for electrical machines and impermeable graphite, among others. The Industrial Furnace and Related Products segment is engaged in the manufacture and sale of industrial furnaces, gas furnaces, silicon carbide heating elements, ceramic resistors, as well as fire resistant materials made from silicon carbide and alumina, among others. The Company is also engaged in leasing of real estate and equipment, the provision of transportation services, the development and sale of computer software and the operation of golf practice centers.

BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, Tokai Carbon Co., Ltd.'s revenues decreased 41% to Y58.67B. The Company's net income decreased 92% to Y782M. Revenues reflect lower sales from carbon & graphite products and industrial furnaces & related products business segments. Net income also suffers from higher percentage of cost of sales and SG&A expenses, as well as increased total special losses.
