Braskem SA is a petrochemical company. The Company produces a diversified portfolio of petrochemical products and has a focus on polyethylene, polypropylene and polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It has integrated first and second-generation petrochemical production facilities, with 18 plants in Brazil. Its business operations are organized into four business units, which correspond to its principal production processes and products. Its business units include Basic Petrochemicals, Polyolefins, Vinyls and IQ Solucoes & Quimica. On September 11, 2008, Companhia Petroquimica do Sul (Copesul) merged with and into Ipiranga Petroquimica S.A (Ipiranga Petroquimica or IPQ), and on September 30, 2008, Ipiranga Petroquimica merged with and into Braskem. In April 2008, the Company sold Petroflex Industria e Comercio S.A. (Petroflex) to Lanxess Participacoes Ltda. (Lanxess).
