Clariant AG is a Switzerland-based company engaged in the specialty chemicals sector. It divides its activities into four divisions: Textile, Leather and Paper Chemicals (TLP), delivering chemical solutions to fashion, packaging and automotive industries; Pigments and Additives (PA), providing colorants for coatings and plastics; Masterbatches (MB), delivering color and additive concentrates, as well as performance solutions for the plastics industry, and Functional Chemicals (FUN), producing surfactants, glyoxal derivatives, polymers and other specialties for agrochemicals, automotive, aviation, coatings, home and personal care, pharmaceuticals and paints industries. BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, Clariant AG's sales decreased 22% to SF4.9B. Net loss for the period from continuing operations totaled SF138M, vs. a profit of EUR163M. Sales reflect a decrease in demand for the Company's products and services in the Pigments and Additives business segment as well as in all geographic segments. Net loss from continuing operations reflects decreased operating margin.
