Cairn Energy PLC (Cairn) is an oil and gas exploration and production company. The Company operates in two business units; the Capricorn Group, being Capricorn Oil Limited and its subsidiary undertakings, and the Cairn India Group. It had three operating segments. Cairn India Limited Group’s operations are primarily within India. Capricorn Group’s operations focus on new exploration activities in Greenland and the Mediterranean. The Capricorn Group also includes the Company's interests in Bangladesh and Nepal and a share in certain North Indian assets operated by Cairn India Limited. Cairn Energy PLC operates through Cairn UK Holdings Limited, an intermediate holding company and direct parent of Cairn India Limited, and Cairn Energy PLC. The Company holds a 65% interest in Cairn India. Capricorn’s core assets are in Greenland, South Asia and the Mediterranean. Capricorn is a 90% subsidiary of the Company.

BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 June 2009, Cairn Energy plc's revenues decreased 91% to $17.1M. Net loss totaled $60.9M vs. an income of £361.7M. Revenues reflect a decrease in income from Cairn India Group and Capricorn Group divisions. Net loss reflects an increase in unsuccessful exploration costs, the presence of operating loss vs. a profit, a decrease in finance income and an increase in finance costs.
