FirstGroup plc is engaged in the provision of passenger transport services. It operates in four divisions: UK Bus, UK Rail, North America and Greyhound. A fleet of nearly 9,000 buses carries some three million passengers a day in more than 40 major towns and cities. It is also a rail operator, running nearly a quarter of the passenger rail network and carrying over 275 million passengers annually. It is also a provider of transportation services in North America. It is a provider of student transportation with approximately 60,000 yellow school buses operating across the United States and Canada. It also provides transit management and contracting, managing public transport systems, on behalf of city transit authorities. It also provides vehicle maintenance and ancillary support services. Greyhound is a provider of scheduled intercity coach transportation services in the United States and Canada. Greyhound provides scheduled passenger services to approximately 3,100 destinations.

BRIEF: For the six months ended 30 September 2009, FirstGroupplc's revenues increased 5% to £2.9B. Net income decreased 20% to £18.8M. Revenues reflect increase in sales from the UK Bus, UK Rail divisions and presence of revenue from Greyhound segment. Net income was offset by increased operating expenses, higher operating expenses, increased amortization expenses and a decrease in finance income.
