Hyster-Yale Materials Handling, Inc., incorporated on February 26, 1999, and its subsidiaries, design, engineer, manufacture, sell and service a line of lift trucks and aftermarket parts. The Company also operates through Nuvera Fuel Cells, Inc. (Nuvera), which is an alternative-power technology company focused on fuel-cell stacks and related systems. The Company operates through four segments: the Americas, EMEA, JAPIC and Nuvera. The Company operates approximately 10 lift-truck manufacturing and assembly facilities around the world, with over five plants in the Americas, approximately three in EMEA and over four in JAPIC.
The Company's lift truck business comprises the three management units: the Americas, EMEA and JAPIC. Americas includes operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Latin America, among others. The EMEA segment includes operations in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. The JAPIC segment includes operations in the Asia and Pacific regions, including China, as well as the equity earnings of Sumitomo-NACCO Materials Handling Group, Ltd.'s (SN's) operations. The Company's Nuvera also focuses on supporting onsite hydrogen production and dispensing systems that can deliver clean energy solutions to customers. Nuvera has two research and development locations. In the United States, Billerica, Massachusetts, is the primary location for design, development and testing of all of Nuvera's technologies, including the generation, compression, storage and dispensing of hydrogen, in addition to fuel cells. In Europe, San Donato, Italy, it is primarily focused on fuel cell systems integration and testing.
The Company manufactures components, such as frames, masts and transmissions, and assembles lift trucks. The Company offers a line of aftermarket parts to service its installed base of lift trucks in use in the industry. The Company offers online technical reference databases specifying the required aftermarket parts to service lift trucks and an aftermarket parts ordering system. The Company sells Hyster and Yale branded aftermarket parts to dealers for Hyster and Yale lift trucks. The Company also sells aftermarket parts under the UNISOURCE and PREMIER brands to Hyster and Yale dealers for the service of lift trucks. The Company owns or leases manufacturing facilities in Brazil, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands and Northern Ireland, and owns interests in joint ventures with facilities in China, Japan, the Philippines and Vietnam.
The Company's serves customers, such as light and heavy manufacturers, trucking and automotive companies, rental companies, building materials and paper suppliers, lumber, metal products, warehouses, retailers, food distributors, container handling companies, and United States and non-United States Governmental agencies, among others. The Company's lift truck engineering centers utilize a three-dimensional computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) system and are connected with one another, with all of the Company's manufacturing and assembly facilities and with some suppliers.
The Company holds ownership interest in SN. SN manufactures and distributes Sumitomo-branded lift trucks in Japan and exports Hyster and Yale branded lift trucks, and related components and service parts outside of Japan.
