Kazakhmys PLC is an international natural resources company with its main operations in Kazakhstan and the surrounding countries of Central Asia. The Company is engaged in copper mining, but also has interests in zinc, silver, gold, power generation and petroleum. Kazakhmys Copper has 20 mines and 10 concentrators spread across four regional units: Zhezkazgan, Balkhash, Karaganda and the East Region. Kazakhmys Gold is a separate division, consisting of two gold mines in eastern Kazakhstan and three gold/silver development projects in Kazakhstan and neighboring countries. On May 29, 2008, the Company concluded the acquisition of the Ekibastuz GRES-1 coal-fired power plant, the largest power station in Kazakhstan. The Company also owns MKM, which purchases copper from independent traders, and produces and sells a variety of semi-finished copper and copper alloy products.
