Lanxess AG is a German chemical company. The Company's activities are divided into three segments. The Performance Polymers segment encompasses the activities of the Lanxess Group in the production of rubber and plastics, and includes butyl rubbers, performance butadiene rubbers, technical rubber products and semi-crystalline products business units. The Advanced Intermediates segment is engaged in the development, production and marketing of industrial and fine chemicals, such as intermediates for the agrochemical, coating and pharmaceutical industries. The Performance Chemicals segment includes a range of processing chemicals and chemical intermediates for a variety of industries, such as material protection products, ion exchange resins, organic and inorganic pigments, functional and rubber chemicals, lubricants, as well as products for the leather goods manufacturing. The Company operates through its subsidiaries worldwide.

BRIEF: For the nine ended 30 September 2009, Lanxess AG's sales decreased 28% to EUR3.7B. Net income for the period decreased 88% to EUR26M. Sales reflect a decrease in demand for the Company's products and services in the EMEA and Germany geographical segments as well as in the Performance Polymers business division. Net income suffered from decreased gross profit and operating margins as well as from an increase in interest expenses.
