MediGene AG is a Germany-based biotechnology company. Its business activities focus on the development of drugs for the treatment of cancer, skin diseases and autoimmune diseases. MediGene's business is divided into two segments. The Specialty Pharma segment includes the Eligard drug, marketed through its partnership with Astellas Pharma, the Oracea drug, used in the treatment of Rosacea, and Polyphenon E Ointment, sold under the name of Veregen, for the treatment of genital warts. The Biopharma segment comprises oncolytic herpes simplex viruses, EndoTAG-1, a product for the treatment of pancreatic cancer and solid tumors, and the drug RhuDex for treating rheumatoid arthritis. At the preclinical or research stage, MediGene has drug candidates for the development of a therapeutic monoclonal antibody to treat ovarian cancer. BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, MediGene AG's revenues increased 37% to EUR27M. Net loss for the period decreased 37% to EUR15.9M. Revenues reflect an increase in demand for the Company's products and services in the Marketed Products and Drug Candidates business segments. Lower net loss for the period reflects lower selling expenses and administrative expenses as well as presence of income from financial assets.
