Shanks Group plc is a United Kingdom-based independent waste management company with operations in the United Kingdom, Belgium, the Netherlands and Canada. The Company operates in six segments: solid waste, which include non-hazardous solid waste collections, transfer and recycling; landfill and power, which involves landfill disposal (including contaminated soils) and power generation from landfill gas; hazardous waste, which includes industrial cleaning, hazardous waste transport, treatment (including contaminated soils) and disposal and contaminated land remediation; organic treatment, which includes anaerobic digestion and tunnel composting of source segregated organic waste streams; public finance initiative (PFI) contracts, which involves long-term United Kingdom municipal waste treatment contracts, and sand quarry, which involves mineral extraction. The Company also operates a sand quarry adjacent to its landfill site in Wallonia.

BRIEF: For the fiscal year ended 31 March 2009, Shanks Group plc's revenues increased 24% to £696.5M. Net loss increased 77% to £6.4M.
