The Company is engaged in retailing and associated activities in the United Kingdom, the Republic of Ireland, Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Turkey, Thailand, South Korea, Malaysia, Japan, China and the United States. The Company also provides retail banking and insurance services through its subsidiary Tesco Personal Finance PLC (formerly Tesco Personal Finance Group Limited) (TPF). The Company has two business segments, retailing and financial services. Retailing Services includes the Company’s online shopping channels, tesco.com and Tesco Direct; Telecoms; Tesco Personal Finance (TPF), and dunnhumby, its consumer research business.

BRIEF: For the twenty six weeks ended 29 August 2009, Tesco PLC's revenues rose 9% to £27.78B. Net income rose 1% to £1.03B. Revenues reflects increased sales from the UK, Rest of Europe, Asia and USA regions. Net income was partially offset by an increase in cost of sales, increased administrative expenses, an increase in finance cost, a decrease in share of post tax profits of joint ventures and an increase in income tax expense.
