Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais SA (Usiminas) is a Brazil-based company principally engaged in the steel industry. Usiminas produces heavy plates, cold strips, hot strips and coated products. The Company provides its products to the civil construction and electronic industry, as well as the shipbuilding, tubes, home appliances, packing, machines and equipment, automobile and auto parts segments. It operates in Brazil and Europe through its subsidiaries and affiliated companies, such as Companhia Siderurgica Paulista – Cosipa, Usiminas Intenational Ltd and Usiminas Europa AS, among others. As of December, 2008, the Company acquired Zamprogna SA and Dufer.

BRIEF: For the nine months ended 30 September 2009, Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais S.A.'s total revenue decreased 34% to R$7.94B. Net income for the period decreased 69% to R$710.6M. Total revenue reflects a decrease in demand for the Company's products and services. Net income suffered from lower both gross and operating margins due to higher selling, general/administrative and other operating expenses as well as lower financial income.
