Factbox: Headline acts

Jay-Z

- The Brooklyn-born rapper will be the main headline act on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday night.

- Organisers defended their choice of a rapper after critics said they should have picked a rock act.

- Jay-Z, real name Shawn Carter, is one of the top-selling hip hop artists of all time.

- He is married to Beyonce.

The Verve

- The four-piece from Wigan are due to close the festival on Sunday night.

- Their third album "Urban Hymns", which included the hit "Bittersweet Symphony", was one of the fastest-selling albums of the '90s.

- Singer Richard Ashcroft told the NME he was looking forward to returning to the festival: "We played twice in the early '90s - we felt there was a uniqueness in those performances."

Leonard Cohen

- Born in Montreal, the gravel-voiced singer started his musical career in New York in the late 1960s.

- He fought depression and retreated to a California monastery in the 1990s.

- His 1967 debut album, "Songs of Leonard Cohen", included what became one of his most popular songs, "Suzanne".

Crowded House

- Formed in Melbourne in the 1980s, the group is best known in Britain for the hit singles "Weather With You" and "Don't Dream It's Over".

- The band members cut their teeth on the live music circuits in Australia and New Zealand before moving to Los Angeles.

- They are due to play the main stage on Saturday.

Kings of Leon

- The Nashville-based rock band have drawn praise from music heavyweights Mick Jagger, Elton John, and U2.

- Their third album "Because of the Times" was a UK number one.

- They say they were influenced by the Rolling Stones, Neil Young and Bob Dylan.

- The band will perform on the Pyramid Stage on Friday.

KT Tunstall

- The Scottish singer-songwriter won the best British female solo artist prize at the Brits in 2006.

- Her public profile rocketed after a live performance of her bluesy song "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" on the BBC's "Later ...With Jools Holland".

- Her biggest UK hit was "Suddenly I See", which reached number 12 in 2005.

James Blunt

- The singer-songwriter is a former army officer who served in Kosovo.

- After leaving the services in 2002, he recorded his debut album "Back to Bedlam", which includes the songs "You're Beautiful" and "High".

- He won the best British male solo artist prize at the 2006 Brit Awards.

- He'll perform on the main stage at Glastonbury on Saturday.
