Jun. 21 - During the division of Germany, the lives of many East Germans were scrutinised by the Stasi, the country's secret police.

So the whole concept of privacy has a particular resonance in Germany, as its Stasi past is still being pieced together.

Shredded Stasi files are being digitally reconstructed thanks to modern technology, and Stasi history is being examined by films such as the Oscar-winning "The Lives of Others".

Joanna Partridge reports for Reuters.
