Feb 7 - The Australian government has expressed outrage over film of whales, including a minke whale and her calf, being harpooned by Japanese whalers.
The footage was taken by an Australian fisheries and customs patrol ship sent to the Southern Ocean to gather photographic and video evidence of Japan's scientific whaling for a possible international legal challenge. Japan plans to hunt almost 1,000 minke and fin whales for research over the Antarctic summer.
