Nov 9 - A legislator of India's newly elected western Maharashtra state Assembly is man-handled and slapped for taking an oath in Hindi rather than in Marathi.
Abu Azmi, a legislator of the regional Samajwadi Party, was roughed up while trying to take an oath.
Legislators of the right-wing Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), who have been championing for the state's Marathi language, unfurled banners and protested when Abu Azmi began to take an oath in Hindi.
In the ensuing scuffle Azmi was pushed and slapped.
