Thomson agrees to buy Reuters

May 15 - Canadian media group Thomson Corp buys Reuters for $17.2 billion.

The two companies are set to create the world's biggest financial news and data group in a deal worth $17.2 billion. The tie-up marks the end of an era at Reuters which has been an independent news agency for more than 150 years.
