As the red carpet is rolled out on the Croisette, filmmakers, starlets and fans get ready for the madness.
The festival begins with a screening of "My Blueberry Nights" by Hong Kong filmmaker Won Kar Wai, who directed "In the Mood for Love" and "2046".
It stars Jude Law, Natalie Portman and singer Norah Jones, who is making her acting debut.
