Jul. 3 - Former Liberian President Charles Taylor makes surprise appearance at the U.N. Special Court in the Hague.

Charles Taylor had boycotted his trial arguing he had inadequate funds to mount a proper defence.

He is charged with murder, mutilation, and the recruitment of child soldiers in Sierra Leone.
