Train sets Paris-London record

(01:41) Report

Sep. 4 - Eurostar set a new Paris to London rail speed record of just over two hours on its inaugural run on Britain's new high-speed line.

The Eurostar came close to topping 200 mph along Britain's new 68-mile (109 km) high-speed track. The train, carrying journalists and officials from Paris, arrived at London St Pancras station in two hours, 3 minutes and 39 seconds -- half-an-hour quicker than the usual Paris to London Waterloo route. The new service opens to the public in November. The newly renovated St Pancras station will eventually link with the site of the 2012 Olympics at Stratford in east London.
