Israel eases Gaza blockade

Jan. 22 - An Israeli-approved emergency shipment of fuel for the Gaza Strip's sole electricity plant arrives in the Hamas-ruled territory.

According to Israeli officials, the shipment includes 2.2 million litres (581,000 gallons) of industrial fuel. According to an EU official, between 700,000 litres (185,000 gallons) and 800,000 litres (211,000 gallons) will be transferred on Tuesday (January 22nd), with the the balance coming through later in the week. In addition 500,000 litres of diesel for generators and cooking gas supplies are expected to be allowed through.
