Thousands flee homes in fear

(01:46) Report

Jan. 26 - Police are patrolling an area of Kenya where a new outbreak of ethnic violence has left at least 12 dead and thousands displaced.

Armed gangs are manning roadblocks in the Rift Valley town of Nakuru and the authorities have imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in a bid to contain pitched battles between hundreds of tribal gangs armed with machetes, clubs and bows and arrows. Scores of displaced carrying their belongings were arriving at a church in Nakuru for shelter saying they were fleeing the armed gangs.
