Jan. 29 - At least 49 people have died as snow and ice sweep across much of China, affecting the annual New Year holiday.
Sub-zero temperatures, snow and sleet blanketing much of central, eastern and southern China have crippled transportation systems, caused shortages of power and food, and stranded hundreds of thousands of people.
