Heathrow's T5 opens to chaos

Mar. 27 - Dozens of flights were cancelled and all baggage check in suspended after the luggage handling system broke down causing misery for travellers using Heathrow's new Terminal 5.

Terminal 5, which took almost two decades to plan and erect, received its first flight, from Hong Kong just before 0500 GMT on Thursday morning (March 27, 2008). As Thursday afternoon wore on, luggage check-in was suspended throughout the terminal, according to UK media.
