Apr. 8 - U.S. stocks were down early Tuesday after mixed results from Dow component Alcoa and a warning from chip maker Advanced Micro Devices put earnings worries at the forefront.
Washington Mutual added to the jitters after it warned of a bigger-than-expected quarterly loss. On the economic front, pending homes sales fell to a record low in February, according to an industry trade group. Conway Gittens reports from New York.
