Hamas plays down Mideast hopes
Apr. 21 - Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter says Hamas would go along with a peace deal backed by the Palestinian people in a vote.
But talks with the Islamist group's top leader Khaled Meshaal during Friday and Saturday and phone call on Monday have brought commitments that appear short on details and remarks by Hamas officials in Gaza suggest it is not prepared to abandon long-held positions.
