Stocks hit by inflation, high oil

May 20 - U.S. stocks finished sharply lower on Tuesday after signs of rising inflation and record oil near $130 a barrel added to growing fears of a consumer-led slowdown.

  • The Dow fell 199 points to 12,828.
  • The S&P 500 shed 13 points to 1,413.
  • The Nasdaq fell 23 points to 2,492.
  • Crude oil settled at a lifetime best of $129.07.
