UN chief tours cyclone-hit Myanmar

May 22 - U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon is in Myanmar to try to convince the ruling junta to accept more foreign aid for the victims of Cyclone Nargis.

Ban Ki-moon saw flooded rice fields and destroyed homes during his mission on Thursday to get large-scale foreign aid to nearly 2.5 million people left destitute by Cyclone Nargis.

On a helicopter tour of the Irrawaddy Delta and a visit to one of the military government's relief camps, the U.N. Secretary-General was told by officials that the situation was under control.

Ban said his main concern was to get his message across that the generals needed to open up to international aid.
