French film takes top Cannes prize

May 25 - "Entre les murs" becomes the first French film in 21 years to scoop the coveted Palme d'Or prize for best picture at the Cannes Film Festival.

Called "The Class", the film is set in a tough Parisian high school and is based on an autobiographical novel. Benicio del Toro won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Argentine revolutionary Ernesto "Che" Guevara in Steven Soderberg's four-and-a-half hour long double bill "Che".
