EDF retreats from British Energy bid
Aug. 1 - The French power generator EDF says it failed to reach agreement on a 24 billion dollar plan to take over British Energy.
Talks may still be going on but the last-minute pullout has dealt a huge blow to Britain's plans to build a series of new nuclear power stations and is a further setback to EDF's ambitions for international expansion.
