U.S. job market in 7-month slide

Aug. 1 - The U.S. economy extended job losses to a seventh month in July and the jobless rate hit a four-year high in signs the labor market is not improving.

  • The Dow lost 51 points to 11,326.
  • The S&P 500 lost 7 points to 1,260.
  • The Nasdaq lost 14 points to 2,310.

    Crude prices rallied $1.02 to settle at $125.10 a barrel.
