U.S. aid lands in Georgia

Aug 14 - Two U.S. Air Force transport planes landed in the Georgian capital of Tbilisi on Thursday carrying a second load of foreign humanitarian aid.

The delivery will reinforce President Bush's pledge of U.S. support for Georgia as the ceasefire with Russia prevails.

The U.S. C-17 Globemaster military aircraft which arrived in Georgia's capital is the second humanitarian flight in as many days.

A third shipment of blankets, medicine and medical equipment was expected to be flown in on Friday (August 15), completing the almost million-dollar donation.

The conflict over the rebel province of South Ossetia erupted last week when Tbilisi launched an offensive to retake the tiny territory which threw off Georgian rule in the early 1990s. Moscow responded with a massive counter-strike.
