Georgia takes Russia to court

(02:08) Report

Sep 8 - The International Court of Justice hears allegations of ethnic cleansing by Russia in breakaway Georgian provinces.

The United Nations highest court, based in The Hague, is holding three days of emergency hearings to halt what Georgia says is a campaign of ethnic cleansing by Russia in the rebel provinces of South Ossetia and Abkhazia. Russia denies the charges.

Speaking on the sidelines of the hearing, Russia's ambassador to the Netherlands said Russia would "produce facts and evidence" that would discredit Georgian allegations.

The influential U.S.-based Human Rights Watch says it's collected evidence that both sides used indiscriminate force against civilians during their brief war last month.
