Oct 6 - As more European banks follow Germany's lead and guarantee savers' deposits, Germany says it made no such pledge.
The move to guarantee deposits has angered countries such as Britain who fear cash will be sucked from their less-guaranteed banks.
Britain has said it may have to buy billions of dollars of bank stocks if the financial crisis worsens.
