Central banks cut rates 0.5 percent

Oct 8 - Central banks around the world made an emergency interest rate cut of 0.5 percent to stem the financial meltdown.

The move was announced shortly after British Prime Minister Gordon Brown pledged (USD) 87 billion to shore up UK banks.
