Wall St. ignores shrinking economy

Oct. 30 - Stocks jumped on Thursday despite signs the U.S. economy was one step closer to an official recession.

The Dow gained 189 points to 9,180. The S&P 500 rallied 24 points to 954. The Nasdaq jumped 41 points to 1,698. Crude oil fell to $65.96 a barrel. Conway Gittens reports from New York.SOUNDBITE: Kurt Karl, chief economist, Swiss Ret
