DRC refugees flee to Uganda

(01:28) Report

Nov 13 - Thousands of refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo are seeking safety in neighbouring Uganda.

It is estimated that around a quarter of a million people have fled the fighting between rebel forces loyal to General Laurent Nkunda and the Congolese army in recent months.

More than five million people have died in a decade of conflict. The world's biggest U.N peace keeping force of 17,000 troops has not been able to stem the latest wave of violence in the country.

The roots of the conflict are in the Rwandan genocide of some 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus.

Basmah Fahim reports.
