Retailers in survival mode

Dec 23 - Super Saturday, the last Saturday before Christmas, was hardly super for retailers as shoppers kept tight tabs on their spending.

Just 38.7 percent of Americans went shopping during the final weekend before Christmas, the lowest turnout in at least six years, according to a survey by America's Research Group & UBS.
