Jan. 9 - Obama nominated Leon Panetta as CIA director, and retired Adm. Dennis Blair to oversee all U.S. spy agencies as director of national intelligence.

Both choices did not come up through the ranks of intelligence agencies. Their nominations reflect Obama's determination to restore a battered U.S. reputation. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.
