Commemorating Osama bin Laden. A group of lawyers in Peshawar hold special prayers for the Al Qaeda leader after he was killed by U.S. forces on Pakistani soil on Monday. Since his death some Pakistanis have come out to express their support for bin Laden. The president of the Peshawar Islamic lawyer forum, who lead the prayers, said the ceremony was also to commemorate others who died in the raid on bin Laden's compound. (SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) GHULUM NABI, PRESIDENT OF PESHAWAR ISLAMIC LAWYERS FORUM: "The funeral prayers that we have just held were also for those innocent people who were martyred over there. They were killed for no reason when the Americans attacked. If Osama is alive, may Allah grant him a long life, but if he has died, then these funeral prayers are for him." The prayer ceremony ended with the participants proclaiming "Long live Osama!". But elsewhere in Pakistan there was a mood of apathy. Western countries were expecting reprisals but pro-bin Laden rallies have been few. One taxi driver explains that Pakistanis have too many troubles to care much about bin Laden's death. (SOUNDBITE) (Urdu) LOCAL TAXI DRIVER, BILAL AHMED: "We are stuck in our own numerous problems, like poverty and rising prices. What does it matter to us whether Osama is dead or alive?" Indifference though is not a stance the Pakistani government can afford to take. Islamabad is facing growing international pressure to explain how America's most wanted man was able to live for years in this quiet compound, and its people are asking why they were not more involved in an operation that took place on their territory.
