Gunshots echo through the streets of Taiz - as masses demand the ouster of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Snipers are said to have shot two demonstrators dead as unrest continued for a third day in the southern Yemeni city. Dozens were injured by gunfire, teargas, and beatings by plainclothes agents wielding batons. Protesters retaliated by torching a police building. Security forces had been trying to break up a blockade set up by protesters, but it was instead extended to seal off Taiz public services. Residents say the city of 540,000 has been effectively paralysed. The months of daily protests brought on by Saleh's refusal to relinquish his nearly 33 years in power continue, and many of these demonstrators maintain that they won't leave until he is gone.
