July 8 - With the latest jobs report showing persistent weakness, U.S. President Obama said much more needs to be done bolster employment. Deborah Lutterbeck reports.

With the US reporting that jobs growth ground to a near halt last month, U.S. President Barack Obama says much more needs to be done to bolster employment. SOUNDBITE: U.S. President Barack Obama, saying (English): "Today's job numbers confirm what most Americans already know, we still have a long way to go." As Obama is trying to iron out an agreement on the budget and the debt limit with Congressional leaders he also said uncertainty over the debt limit and the crisis in Greece is contributing to economic weakness. SOUNDBITE: U.S. President Barack Obama, saying (English): "The problems in Greece and Europe and uncertainty over the debt limit have also made businesses hesitant." The June employment report showed a modest gain of 18,000, the weakest reading since September, and well below expectations. Deborah Lutterbeck, Reuters.
