Former News of the World editor and News International CEO Rebekah Brooks has told a British parliamentary committee investigating phone hacking she never sanctioned payments to police officers.

Brooks resigned last week as head of News Corporation's British newspaper operations. She joined her former bosses Rupert and James Murdoch in apologising to the British parliament The hacking has sparked a political crisis for British Prime Minister David Cameron, while members of London's Metropolitan Police stand accused of taking bribes from journalists in return for information.
